If you’ve never experienced a week-long road cycling trip or haven’t had the chance to ride in the stunning region of Lucca, Tuscany, this journey will be an eye-opener. You’ll discover how much more enjoyable road cycling can be on smooth tarmac, surrounded by breathtaking views,  vineyards, and historic towns, all in ideal temperatures and dry weather—so different from the typical conditions in the UK in May.

Perfect if you want to improve your skills but don't normally have the dedicated time to practice or are fed up with the weather.

With two group leaders and a support vehicle, this trip is perfect for anyone unsure of their abilities or who wants to push themselves up to that next level but still have a safety net.

What makes this trip different?

This trip is great for people who want to focus on riding their bikes while everything else is taken care of. However, unlike other escapes, a key focus of the week is developing skills and knowledge.

Our experienced team, with years of involvement in sports and coaching, will provide valuable insights to help riders enhance their skills. Participants will learn about riding safety, group dynamics, pacing, descending techniques, endurance fitness, and effective fueling strategies. We'll cover essential topics like how to improve performance, fitness, efficiency, bike fit, safety, as well as how to prepare for cycling events. We aim to share our extensive knowledge as sports coaches and athletes by utilising video analysis, on-the-go tips, and evening lectures.
Priced at £1,495 per person, participants enjoy a stay at a lovely 4-star Bed and Breakfast, all in a fantastic location. 

With a cap of 16 riders, we ensure small group sizes—a maximum of 8 per guide—allowing for personalized attention and a more exclusive atmosphere.

Course Itinerary

Saturday: Arrival Day

Arrive in Pisa, check into the hotel, a 35-minute drive from the airport, settle in, arrange for rental bikes if needed, and enjoy an afternoon bike ride to check your gear and get familiar with the bikes.

 

Sunday to Friday: Daily Rides

Over the next six days, we'll tackle awesome loops from Lucca, each ranging from 50-120km. Every day will bring a mix of terrain, with flat sections, rolling hills, climbs, and descents. While some climbs might be longer, don’t worry—you'll have full vehicle support each day.
One day during the week will be notably easier for recovery. 

Rides kick off around 9:00 AM, with daily breaks for coffee and a light lunch. We aim to wrap up rides by mid-afternoon, giving you plenty of time to recover and relax.
Uninvasive skill development. Our coaches will use cameras to film your technique while you ride. You won’t even notice them, but the insights will make a huge difference to your riding.

The Evening Sessions

Join us every evening for a laid-back briefing session. It’s a great opportunity to soak up tips from experienced riders. We’ll cover topics like video analysis of your riding, fine-tuning your bike fit, nailing those technical skills, and improving your descending techniques with video insights. Plus, we'll share useful nutrition and fueling strategies to keep your energy up. And, we'll chat about what to expect on the next day's route.

Meet your Guides

Tom Saxlund

Tom is a co-founder of New Generation and a passionate cyclist with a wealth of experience in endurance sports. His enthusiasm for cycling is contagious, and he loves sharing his expertise to help others improve their biking skills. An active participant in UK and Alpine events, Tom excels in granfondos and sportives, performing well in his age category. Notable achievements include placing 4th in his age group at the La Marmotte Granfondo (172km, 5200m ascent) in the French Alps, 2nd in the age group at the Fred Whitton Granfondo (174km, 3000m ascent) in the Lake District, UK, and setting the course record for the Cambrian Coast Sportive (163km, 3100m ascent, North Wales) as one of the few riders to finish the event in under 6 hours.

Duncan Halliday

Duncan enjoys the winters in Verbier, running the Swiss side of New Generation. A ski and snowboard coach, a mountaineer in winter and a surf and cycle coach in summer, he enjoys developing athletes in all sports. Linking these sports together has been his key to keeping injury-free and motivated all year round to get the most out of each season. Racing in the top category in Ireland, Duncan has enjoyed top 10 results in multi-day events and one-day classics. Competing in events or enjoying a social spin, he’s always keen to have the best day on and off the bike.

When is the best time to go cycling in Lucca?

The best time to go cycling in Lucca is April, May, June, or September, when the temperatures are ideal for cycling. These months still have good weather, but it’s milder than in July and August.

Another factor to consider is Lucca's tourist season. From July to September, the area gets noticeably busier. If you want a quieter, less busy ride, visit just before or after these months.
